Home Sweet Military Home

We are no longer homeless! We got into a house quicker than we anticipated and we love it! It puts the house we left behind in Texas to shame. We have three bedrooms, two and a half baths, a mud room, a garage, a basement, and wonderful kitchen with an electric oven that actually works and lots of cabinet and counter space, a dining room, a laundry room, and a big living room. It has actual siding on the outside instead of cardboard like our old house. We have carpet, real carpet, not industrial grade stuff. It’s wonderful! I can’t wait for our stuff to get here so we can put Monkeys room together, get Baby K’s room started, and in general turn our house into our home!

Raving Princesses

I was reading a blog today and the author seemed to have an issue with her daughter liking Disney Princesses. To me, she seemed to be saying that by liking them and playing with them that little girls would grow up living in a fantasy world. Ok, my Monkey is three, almost four. She loves the princesses. In fact, she takes an imaginary Prince Philip (Sleeping Beauty) with us wherever we go. I have no problem with that. I have no issue with her wanting to be Ariel for Halloween and I’ve even searched and finally found the perfect Ariel costume, bought it, and packed it with our stuff so that she’d be sure to have it on Halloween in case our household goods weren’t here yet. It doesn’t bother me that she turns ordinary straws into magic wands. So what, she’s three, and she’s using her imagination, which in my opinion is such an important skill in childhood. Childhood goes by so quickly! Her daddy and I tell her that she can be and do anything she wants in life and we truly believe she can. She’s the only one that can put limits on herself. I personally don’t think that watching princess movies, reading princess books, or playing with princess dolls is going to make her grow up believing she is going to marry a prince and live in some perfect world. So what if she walks around humming the wedding march (I watched a lot of wedding shows and she picked up the march) and carrying wildflowers? She’s a little girl, really what little girl hasn’t done something like that?? But then she’ll turn around and be a vet, doctor, astronaut, mommy, teacher, or any number of things. I guess what I’m trying to say is that I’m not worried about what her fascination with the princesses is doing to her, she seems to be just fine!

Greetings from Alaska

Three days in a post hotel, two days in a fabulous hotel connected to one of my favorite stores, and a nine hour flight that had its moments…we have arrived! Alaska welcomed us with frigid temperatures (from the 80’s in Texas to the 20’s here) and snow, it’s beautiful! I’ll admit, it’s going to take a little getting used to, the time change, the temperatures, and the dark/light thing that’s going on, but I think it’s going to be alright.
We ventured out around town today and found some things that are familiar to us and some things that are new and interesting. This town is rustic and I love that. I can’t wait to buy the moose shower curtain that I found in Dallas, then my bathroom will be rustic too!
I have some pictures and I will post them soon…I hope!

Homeless

All of our stuff has been packed up, loaded up, and hauled away for it’s journey to Alaska. Monkey watched as they drove away with it all yesterday, and even though we’ve been talking to her about this move for a while she was still quite upset. She stood at the back door and cried, then she waved and said “Bye bye stuff I’ll see you in Alaska.” When everything was gone and the house was totally empty, we cleaned in preparation for today’s final inspection.
This morning we met the carpet cleaner who was done in about thirty minutes (we only had two small rooms with carpet.) We called the housing office this morning to see about getting our final inspection moved up from this afternoon to this morning, and they were very accommodating. So the woman came about 10:30 and spent all of three minutes in our house. Hubby had been sweating the inspection, as we had both heard some horror stories about it. Then again, the house we lived in was built in the 1950’s and was supposed to be demolished in 2007, but that didn’t happen. We really don’t think they care too much about that housing area. Our house was renovated before we moved in, by renovating it, they added industrial grade carpet and ceiling fans in the bedroom. On our pre move in paperwork it states that our oven was in need of a new ignitor. They never repaired it and only two of the eyes worked even after multiple work orders. Not to mention that there was a huge scorch mark on it. Just my opinion here, but if you’re renovating, would you not put it working appliances? They recently painted the whole neighborhood and my hubby said “You can’t put makeup on a pig.” I’ll say that we are glad to be out of there, even though as of today, we are officially homeless!
